Hail bruises the shingle mat and knocks granules loose without always tearing the shingle, and wind gets under the edges and breaks the seal without ripping anything off outright. Both types of damage get worse with time and exposure, and both are the kind of thing an insurance adjuster expects to see documented close to the storm date. Signs your roof took storm damage
Bruised or dented shingles
Hail bruises the shingle mat and dents soft metal like vents and gutter edges, and it often shows up as granules piling up at the downspouts. A bruised shingle can look intact but fail early once the sun works on the exposed spot underneath.
Creased or missing shingles
Wind gets under the leading edge of a shingle and breaks the seal, leaving it creased or tearing it off entirely. A creased shingle won't reseal on its own and will leak in the next rain even if it's still sitting in place.
Dented or damaged soft metals
Vent covers, flashing, and gutters show hail hits clearly, and adjusters use that pattern as part of the evidence for a roof claim. If the metal is dented, it's worth assuming the shingles took a hit too.
Debris impact from limbs or branches
A falling limb can punch through shingles, underlayment, and even the decking underneath. It's usually obvious where the impact happened, but the full extent, especially to the decking, needs a look from the attic side.

We lift-test shingles along the edges and ridge, since a shingle that looks fine from below can already have a broken seal.
Decking and structural impact
If a limb or heavy debris hit the roof, we check the decking from the attic for cracks that don't show from the surface.
What to expect during the visit
Our team inspects and photographs every slope of the roof along with the gutters, vents, and any exposed soft metal, and we count hail hits the same way an insurance adjuster would. If there's collateral damage to siding, screens, or AC equipment, we note that too. Once the inspection is done, we give a straight answer on whether the damage is worth filing a claim over, and if it is, we walk through what the adjuster meeting looks like and stay involved through the repair or replacement. How soon after a storm should I get my roof inspected?
